Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: An ACBuy Checkpoint Diary and a Five-Point Flat Check on Thin Polyester

We ordered two pairs through ACBuy, logged every dashboard checkpoint and measured both flat at five points. The thin, non-stretch polyester is loud, light and inside the stated tolerance band; the print shows through on the reverse.

How we tested

Ordered two pairs at the $6.27 list price through ACBuy, logged each dashboard timestamp, filmed the unboxing and weighed the parcel at 0.31 kg after repack. Measured waist, hip, rise, inseam and leg opening flat on sizes L and XXL, then wore both through four weeks and two 30 °C washes.

Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: An ACBuy Checkpoint Diary and a Five-Point Flat Check on Thin Polyester

This listing is not one pair of shorts. It is a colour range — blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black — sharing a single straight-leg, athletic cut in thin, non-stretch polyester with an all-over 3D print, priced at $6.27 against a $6.74 original, SKU 7720521196, sizes S to 5XL, listed for beach and summer use as a 2026 spring release. We bought two pairs at list price through ACBuy and treated the order as a checkpoint exercise: we wrote down every status change with a timestamp, then measured the garment flat and wore it for four weeks. What follows separates what the dashboard told us from what the parcel actually contained.

The checkpoint diary: what each ACBuy label commits the warehouse to

Our order ran through the standard sequence, and the labels on the dashboard are worth translating into warehouse actions, because the words are easy to misread. A status of "Purchased" means the agent has paid the seller, not that anything has shipped. "In transit to warehouse" is a domestic Chinese tracking state. "Arrived at warehouse" means the parcel has been signed for — it does not mean anyone has opened it, photographed it or measured it yet. Quality-check photos are a separate step, and the approval clock attached to them, commonly described as seven days before an item is auto-approved, is the window in which a variant or colourway question has to be raised.

CheckpointElapsed from paymentWhat actually happened

Parcel submitted, rehearsal run6 d 2 hRepacked and reweighed at 0.31 kg for two pairs

These numbers come from one order and are not a service promise. The useful habit is the one we are keeping: write the timestamp next to each label, because "arrived" and "checked" are days apart and the approval clock starts on the photos, not on the sign-in.

Three QC angles against seven colourways

The default photo set — front, back, size tag — is enough to catch a wrong size or a wrong colour, and it catches neither of the two things this particular product can go wrong on. It cannot show whether the print is registered consistently around the side seam, and it cannot show how much of the pattern shows through from the inside on the white colorway. Those are the two checks we would spend a rephoto request on if we were buying the loudest variant. We ordered navy and white, and both arrived as pictured in the listing gallery, but that gallery is nine images across a seven-colour range: each buyer is judging one colourway from a shared set. Confirm your variant against its own image before you approve.

The five-point flat check, measured against the stated 1–2 cm tolerance

The listing states a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance, which we read as the band within which a pair may sit without being wrong. Laid flat on the table with the waistband relaxed — and it stays relaxed, because there is no stretch in the fabric — the size L pair came in slightly under the chart at every point except the inseam, which matched. The XXL pair ran the other way, over by 1.5 cm at the waist, close to the edge of the band.

Point (flat)Size L chartOur size LVariance
Waist, relaxed78 cm77.5 cm−0.5 cm
Hip104 cm103.2 cm−0.8 cm
Front rise30 cm29.4 cm−0.6 cm
Inseam15 cm15.0 cm0 cm
Leg opening28 cm27.1 cm−0.9 cm
Waist, relaxed (XXL)84 cm85.5 cm+1.5 cm

The shape is what the description calls athletic and straight: a mid-rise, an easy leg that does not taper, two side-seam pockets and no rear pocket on either pair. Because the polyester has no give, the drawstring is doing structural work rather than trimming. Ours measured 118 cm with moulded plastic tips, threaded through two metal eyelets; over roughly forty tie-and-untie cycles across four weeks the cord did not fray and the knot held without slipping, but the eyelets are the lightest hardware on the garment and the first thing we would expect to dull.

The print: registration at the seam, strike-through inside

The all-over motif is printed, not appliquéd, and it wraps the side seams with a 4 mm step where the two panels meet — visible only when you look for it, and unremarkable for a beach short. Turned inside out, the reverse face carries a muted version of the pattern on both pairs, and the white pair is where that matters: the inside is noticeably greyer than the outside, which tells you the ink sits close to the surface of a thin fabric rather than in it. In practice this means light-coloured swimwear or underwear under the white colorway, and it means you should not expect the print to read as dense as it does in the listing photos.

Wear and wash were unremarkable in the good sense. Two 30 °C cycles in a mesh bag, line dried each time, and the print stayed flat with no cracking or lifting at the hem. The single row of straight stitching along the hem, overlocked on the inside edge, is the plainest construction on the short, and it survived both washes without puckering. On the line, a pair dried in well under an hour. The white pair picked up a faint grey cast along the inner waistband after the second wash, where the print overlaps the seam allowance — cosmetic, hidden when worn, and the only change the four weeks produced.

What the brand-level evidence can and cannot tell you

No independent buyer feedback exists for this specific listing, so there is nothing to corroborate the seller's own description. Brand-level material is a different thing and should be read as context, not as a verdict on this parcel: reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store skew heavily negative, with 1.6 out of 5 across 131 Trustpilot reviews and repeated complaints about cheap fabrics and incorrect sizing, while a Reddit r/FashionReps review of Ralph Lauren replica polos found the material close to retail and the logo convincing. Both point the same way for a buyer — judge the fabric in your hand and the measurements on your table, not the label.

Sizing guidance for the brand is more directly useful. Ralph Lauren runs several fit profiles, and buyers report that Classic-Fit sits roughly a size larger than typical domestic sizing while Custom-Fit runs closer to Asian body sizing. This listing does not name a fit profile, which is why the flat numbers above matter more than the letter on the tag: a size L that measures 77.5 cm at the waist is a fact, while "L" is a claim. Above XXL the chart steps up in larger increments, so if you are buying the 4XL or 5XL end of the run, ask the seller for that size's flat waist and hip before you commit.

The shipping arithmetic of a very cheap short

The listing carries no usable weight — the field is blank — so there is no way to estimate international shipping from the item page. Our two pairs, sizes L and XXL, weighed 0.38 kg in the seller's poly bags and 0.31 kg after the warehouse repacked them for consolidation, a 70 g difference that is trivial on a small parcel and worth knowing about if you are building a cart around several light items. Treat rehearsal numbers as a simulation rather than the final dispatch packing, because the packed weight and dimensions are confirmed again at handoff and the shipping deposit can be adjusted either way.

Public write-ups of ACBuy's fee structure disagree with each other — some describe a 0% base service fee, others 5–6%, and the free storage window is quoted as both 30 and 90 days in current guides. We are not going to resolve that from a single order; check the fee and the storage deadline shown on your own order screen, note the date, and do not plan a slow consolidation around a number you read in a guide. On a $6.27 item, the agent and shipping costs dwarf the purchase price, which is the real story of this product: the shorts are close to disposable-cheap, and the parcel is what you are actually budgeting for.

Where that leaves the shorts

As a garment, this is a light, loud, straight-hem beach short that measured close to its own chart and behaved itself through four weeks of ordinary summer wear. As an order, it is a lesson in which checkpoints carry information: the size tag photo confirms the variant, the flat measurement confirms the fit, and the print alignment and white-colorway density have to be judged either in a rephoto request or in your hands. We would buy the navy again without hesitation and the white only after seeing the inside of the fabric.

Editor verdict

A genuinely light beach short whose flat measurements matched the chart closely for $6.27. The polyester is thin and non-stretch and the print shows through inside, so approve the exact colourway at QC before shipping.

What works
  • All five size L measurements landed inside the stated 1–2 cm band
  • Print stayed flat and crack-free through two 30 °C washes
  • Broad S–5XL run at a $6.27 list price
Watch-outs
  • Thin, non-stretch polyester; print visibly strikes through the reverse, most on white
  • Listing leaves the weight field blank, so shipping cost is guesswork until repack
  • No independent buyer feedback exists for this exact listing

Who this is for

Buyers after a light, loud, straight-hem beach short who need sizes above XXL and will check the chosen colourway in QC photos before approving.

Who should skip

Anyone wanting stretch, structure or a heavier hand-feel, or expecting the print to look identical across all seven colourways without inspecting the variant first.

Frequently asked

Does “Arrived at warehouse” mean my shorts have been checked?
No. Sign-in is logged first; the garment is then stored, photographed and weighed. In our order the QC photos appeared about 22 hours after the warehouse signed for the parcel, and the approval clock runs from the photos, not the sign-in.
Why did the parcel weight change after repacking?
Rehearsal packaging is a simulation of the parcel, not the final dispatch carton. Our two pairs dropped from 0.38 kg in the seller's bags to 0.31 kg after repack, and the weight is confirmed again at handoff.
Is the 3D print supposed to show on the inside?
On our pairs it does, because the ink sits on the surface of a thin fabric. It is mild on navy and clearly visible on white, so plan light-coloured underwear under the white colourway.

Biography

Pieter Vandeput runs reviews at ACBuy Order Notebook. He came to the desk from a Belgian menswear importer, where he spent five years checking incoming samples against size charts and writing the rejection notes nobody wanted to read. He joined the Notebook in 2022 and now owns the parcel bench: the scale, the tape measure, the rolling rail and the camera. He has opened more than four hundred agent parcels on this desk and can usually tell from the outer bag whether the inner packing was done at consolidation or at the seller. He writes the fit notes and the timing tables, and he keeps the archive boxes in order.

Hands-on product testing, garment measurement, packaging assessment and agent timing tables

How I test

Pieter orders every featured item at list price through the agent under review, logs each checkpoint with a timestamp, and opens the parcel on camera. He weighs the parcel, measures garments flat at five points, compares them with the listed chart and a control item, then wears or uses the product for four weeks before finalising the score. He records washing behaviour, seams, hardware and zip performance, and he repeats the whole cycle on every six-month retest.
